Tour Members - Zio, G and Big Pete
Once again, a reduced number of tourists, but that didn’t seem to lessen the antics and good time the boys had.
Due to the lack of reasonable flights to Germany, we decided to fly to Amsterdam them get the ICE train to Germany, a great plan until our Germany train was cancelled then our flight was cancelled! Fortunately Zio managed to get alternatives sorted albeit leaving Edinburgh on the 05:45 KLM flight!
Friday was interesting, beer in Schiphol, pit-stop and beer in Utrecht, train delayed due to the weather outside Duisburg but eventually we arrived in Köln for our traditional Asia Gourmet tea, Pedro again having Crispy Duck. After checking into the hotel(Premier Inn), it was a couple of minutes’ walk to the legendary Schreckenskammer where a couple of their ales were consumer, we then went to the Santiago de Cuba bar for a Mojito/White Russian. G’s bout of hick-ups meant we left the next bar(Eigelschänke) a bit early which was probably the sensible option!
Saturday took us the Bergisch-Gladbach for the Regionalliga West match between them and Rödinghausen, the best thing about that game, which finished 1-1, was the chat with a group of ‘casual’ blokes! Another Asia Gourmet then our traditional visit to Shorty’s Shooter bar, the Cubana Bar then the Kwartier Latäng were a kind group invited us to share their barrel of beer!
Sunday took us to Königsdorf who were bottom of the 5th tier Mittelrheinliga, in that town we found the only bar AND it sold Schreckenskammer beer! A couple of these set us up for the game and them things became incredible! We walked into the bar at the ground and we were immediately offered a beer, which was basically what happened for the remainder of that game and for the rest of the evening in the town! The kitty was not replenished at all! Our thoughts are that it took 1st place in the best days we’ve had. Oh and the home team won 4-3, Pedro missed 6 of the goals through being for a pipi, as he did the previous day in Bergisch-Gladbach!
All in all a great weekend, we’ve even been given season tickets for Königsdorf football and handball!
