Rome 2024

Tour party: Zio, Pete, G, AliD, Fred. Kenny, AliA, Frenchie & Joppa

This was one of the largest tour parties for many years, probably because it coincided with Pete’s elongated 50th birthday celebrations!

After the success of the Paris via Brussels trip in 2023, seven of the group decided to travel via Munich and have a night there. This plan also meant an interesting journey home via Madrid.

Unfortunately the unions at Lufthansa decided to have a strike on the day of our flight from Munich to Rome, this meant that Zio had to frantically try and re-arranged the outward journey which he managed by travelling via Paris to Pisa where an interesting evening was spent and then by train to Rome, This almost went tits-up as well as there was a strike announce on the Italian railways while we should have been travelling to Rome, fortunately it did not affect our train!

The group met up in Rome and then went for some culture to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel where most of the group ran out of superlatives in describing, Even G said it as ok!

We ate at an interesting carry-out pizza shop called Bonci’s which Pete had seen on television as being the best carry-out pizza in Rome, it was!

Our normal Friday night was spent in the San Lorenzo area at La Taverna di San Lorenzo where as usual the prices were ridiculously cheap, the first round of 7 beers and a red wine costing 16 Euro!

The less said about Saturday the better, although 5 group members had an excellent platter in a bar, Zio slipped and bruised his arse badly and we ended up as usual in Pepys.

Sunday was planned to be out tourist walk day, unfortunately about half way through it a nice thunderstorm struck so we had to abandon it and find shelter!

Once again, we were photographed many, many times and once again we have no proof of the many pretty ladies that asked to be photographed with us. We may be on many social media sites worldwide but unfortunately not here! In future, we MUST ensure that we also take the picture that we’re being asked to appear in!
